Originally from New York, Kathie studied psychology at her undergraduate school in New Hampshire. She then worked for seven years as a legal secretary. In 2001, Kathie moved to Florida to attend the University of North Florida. She earned her master's degree in 2006, and became a licensed mental health counselor in 2009. Having practiced since 2005, she primarily focused on correctional mental health. She has worked with the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at the county jail, and Florida State Prison. In addition to working in a private group practice, she also worked in a hospital setting and has worked with children, teens, and adults struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues.
In 2012, Kathie became a Qualified Supervisor to help others become licensed in mental health counseling. Her primary focus has been trauma, personality disorders, and cognitive behavior therapy She was a certified clinical trauma counselor, has been trained in Brainspotting, Phase 1 and is a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist and an EMDRIA-approved Consultant-in-Training as of 2024. After that, Kathie decided it was time to create a company to help other clinicians. She realized she wanted to provide clinicians a place where they feel safe to explore ideas, discuss difficult cases, further educate themselves on new clinical techniques, learn about challenging diagnoses, and explore their own clinical voice without judgement. Additionally, Kathie wants her interns to feel comfortable enough to come back even after they are licensed to deliberate or consult on clinical matters. In 2024, Kathie also became an EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training so those who need to finalize their Basic Training hours and/or for those want to become Certified EMDR clinicians. One morning, after conceptualizing this idea for the company, she realized that it takes two years, at minimum, to become licensed, and the clinician benefitting from her services will become...Twice the Therapist...and the business was born. Kathie is currently a member of EMDRIA (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association) and Florida Mental Health Counselor Associates (FMHCA), sitting on their Government Relations Committee. For her self care, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her furbabies. She also loves reading, going to the movies, listening to music, watching TV, and traveling. |
